Royal Daffodil Chapter is named not as one would suppose, for a flower, but for a boat! Royal Daffodil is one of three ferry boats operating on the River Mersey between Liverpool and Birkenhead. She was built in 1962 at Cammell Laird Shipbuilders and Engineers at Birkenhead, and was the first all-welded ship built for Mersey Ferry Services. Originally named Overchurch, she was refitted in 1999 and renamed Royal Daffodil. She is smooth running and well appointed! If this writer had to select a feature about Royal Daffodil chapter it would be to write about their ability to be a traveling afternoon tea shop!! Royal Daffodil members have been the best afternoon tea preparers that we have ever seen. They prepared a Bargain Basement tea to kick off the Convention Fund. This was to be the first of many events by all chapters that then raised funds so that it was possible for us to host the 2005 National Convention in Denver, CO. Later they hosted an afternoon tea to bring together prospective new members for the chapter. In March of 2005 again they prepared an afternoon tea in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting for DBE Colorado. The members paid a very reasonable price for a delicious tea including the usual sandwiches, cream scone, fruit tart and shortbread. All the profits went into the Convention Fund. In all DBE chapters our fundraising is very successful and always emphasizes the FUN in FUNdraising!! Royal Daffodil continues to court new members. It is an evening meeting that after a cup of tea and a snack they settle down to business followed by social time. The Regent is Margaret Rothermel.
